Dry Needling
Myofascial trigger point dry needling is an effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain. Muscles sometimes develop knotted areas called trigger points. These trigger points are highly sensitive and can be painful when touched. They are also often the cause of referred pain.
The process of Dry Needling involves inserting a thin filiform needle through the skin into trigger points. The needles are used to stimulate the tissue, not to inject medication, which is why it is called "Dry" Needling.
This treatment causes physiological changes in the tissues by reducing the muscle contraction, increasing blood flow, and decreasing chemical irritation to damaged tissues.
